My brother’s team won last night

The girls from his school will be going to the tournament for the first time in fifteen years.

To say I’m proud is an understatement. To say the game was exciting downplays the achievement. Probably the best indicator of the nail-biter we witnessed would be to show you my EKG.

There was this girl from the other team that gave him fits. She had 14 points in the second quarter, scoring any way she wanted. No one was tall enough or fast enough to stop her. My brother made the right adjustment at the half, though, and got her off the block, fronting her defensively so she never got the position she wanted again. She only had five points after that point.

And the other team never gave up. They tied it with under three minutes to go, but my brother’s girls managed to break the tie on a free throw on the next possession. Then they capitalized on a defensive stop and a three pointer, then ate clock until the other team had no choice but to foul. The game was iced from the line. With five seconds to go, the other team pulled all its starters. And the celebration began.

We immediately went to my brother to congratulate him, but had to clear out quickly for the press. I’m so proud of my brother and his team.
