I’m not very good with it. I can think of a handful of times where a quote or a nice picture or a sweet sentiment made me feel better. That “Welcome to Holland” thing hit pretty close to home. We packed for Italy, but we’ve been living in Holland ever since my son was born. That being said, many people have told me and my wife that they admire us for what we’ve been through. And I truly appreciate that. I think it’s the kind of thing where most people, if they’re worth their salt, have it in them to do what they have to do. We’ve simply been put in a position where that condition is tested every day. Some times are harder than others. It really comes down to doing what you have to do. I think it was Civil War General Joshua Chamberlain who said, “Battles are won, more or less, in no great measure, within the context of war and the resolve of humanity, in large part, due to a simple strategy of a flower, and a game of He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.” He may have been on large doses of opiates at the time, but his words ring true.
